5first food item I've ever grown!  Aug 19, 2010
By GinSing
Politically speaking, 2010 is probably known as the "year of change".

It's also known as the year of "grow your own" - grow what you eat- and people everywhere are trying to do just that.

So, I bought the Square Foot Gardening book and created my own 3x3 sf garden; filled it up with my own Mel's Mix and planted this Arugula in one of my squares.

So far, it's the only one that is continually holding it's own. Through wind and rain and blistering humid heat, it has steadfastedly produced even if only a leaf or two at a time - which is really all I need.

The flavor, and the smell (!) is divine and I enjoy walking right out my front door and snipping of a few leaves for my salad.

Thanks!

5Resilient plants, super spicy flavor  Sep 24, 2011

I live in Chicago, and this arugula went NUTS in our summer in a blacktop roof garden from pots. And if you think you're going to avoid that super spiciness of arugula by baby picking it, think again! This stuff is POTENT! Freaking yummmyyy!!! 0_0
